***Like Father; Like Son***
This is my son, John and his son, Luke. We were having a triple birthday celebration while John and his family were visiting from Atlanta. John turned 25 this month, James will turn 3 next month and Luke will be turning 1 next month. This isn't the best shot. I didn't take the time compose the shot. But every time I look at it, I laugh.

***More Romance at Espada: Sarah and Russell
If you look closely at the background, there is the remnant of a 300 year old wall from the mission. This part of the mission's exterior wall now stands only about two feet tall.

***Romance at Espada***
When visiting San Antonio, or even just passing through, most people make it a point to stop and see the Alamo. They take the tour of the grounds, hear the dramatic presentation of the story of the epic stand-off that took place there in 1836 and they pick up a souvenir at the gift shop. Then they are on their way, none the wiser to the existence of the other Spanish missions of San Antonio. They are missing out on the most historical beauty of the city. Espada is one of the other missions, in fact, the first Spanish mission to be founded in Texas (1690). We spent part of our day there yesterday because it is one of my favorite places in Texas to practice photography. If you are in San Antonio and you really just want to see what all the talk about the Alamo is all about...then go see the Alamo. If you are looking for fantastic opportunities with your camera, bypass the Alamo and just go to Espada.
This is my son, John and my daughter in law, Ashley posing for a romantic shot in front of the church (built in 1756 and still used for Mass today).

***I held my first child in my arms for the first time 25 years ago today. Life has never been the same. How could I have known all the joys and heartaches, pride and worry that was ahead of me? I love you, John. There isn't anything I'd give back about you. My heart would be incomplete without the memories of the past 25 years. I once held you in my arms every day. And I will always hold you in my heart. Happy birthday, John.

***You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and to the ends of the earth! ~ Acts of the Apostles

Andrew received the Sacrament of Confirmation this evening. This was one of the portraits we took about an hour before Mass. Have I mentioned lately how proud I am of him?

***Only for the Springtime***
Have you ever tried to press a daffodil? They don't preserve very well. I guess it's because they are just meant to fill our senses with vibrant colors and sweet fragrance for a short time in the spring and then disappear with the early summer breeze. Today is my 1st husband, James' birthday. He died in 1999. His memory is kind of like a daffodil. He was here for such a short time, only 36 years. And as the summer breeze was coming into my life, his fragrance faded and the spring soil reclaimed him. In some ways, I tried to press his memory between the pages of a book. But just like a dried and brittle flower, the photos simply don't hold the fragrance and the colors and everything else a memory fails to fully contain. I guess we can only hold some parts of our beloved memories in our hearts, not in photographs and not in the pages of a book. Some things are meant to behold only for the springtime.
