***Blood of Christ...Amen***
This morning, David and I shot a Mass for friends of ours whose little girl was receiving First Holy Communion. This is not her, just a shot I grabbed with stock photos in mind. I think I need to clean up scars and dry skin 1st though.

***Penny for your thoughts***
Another upholstery fabric backdrop. I think this one is a little too close to the color of her hair, even with the hair-light.

***My faithful model, Celine***
Poor girl, broke her hand at a friend's birthday party a couple of weeks ago. But she's a sport. I've been wanting to work on indoor portraits with backdrops. But they are SO expensive, like $400. So I cheated. This is upholstery fabric. I got 4 yards of it for $7 per yard. Celine patiently modeled for me as I worked my way through the experiment adjusting and readjusting the lighting and the backdrop.

***Jon Lionetti***
Mr. Lionetti was one of the guest speakers at the youth conference in the end of January. He is best known for walking across America. I used the same technique with this portrait as I did with the image I posted yesterday. Although this looks a bit like a studio portrait, it is actually a candid taken during his workshop on stage in a very large auditorium. But it gives me ideas for studio portraiture.

***Happy birthday Grandma DiCarlo!***
If feels so strange to type those words in her honor this evening. David's grandmother, Antoinette DiCarlo was born into this world 97 years ago today and this evening, she was born into heaven when she drew her last breath. I believe she was the oldest living member of the DiCarlo family which would make her our family matriarch. I only met her twice, when we joined her for her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the nursing home. How absolutely beautiful she was, and so traditional. At Thanksgiving, a woman at the nursing home said a blessing over the meal. Then we all sat there knowing that something made Grandma uncomfortable. Even though I had only just met her, I think I read her soul. "I think we need to pray our traditional grace now," I announced. "I think so too," Grandma nodded. And we all began..."In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Bless us o Lord and these thine gifts...." Having recited the words that always precede DiCarlo family meals, we all began to enjoy the meal together. Grandma DICarlo, my one birthday wish for you is that tonight you hear the words "Well done my good and faithful servant!"
I took this picture at Thanksgiving dinner. To honor her this evening, I reprocessed it into a B&W painting on granite texture.

***Dear God,
I didn't plan for a February freeze. So if you wouldn't mind sending a few more acorn remnants my way, that would be just great. K - Thanks. Amen.

***The Treadle Singer***
Thank you all for the warm welcome back and the comments on the closeup of the Singer. You made my day :)
This is the rest of the machine I posted last night. For now, we are keeping it in our foyer. Since Celine is only 12 years old, we fear that allowing her to keep it in her room would lead to a small tragedy (like water stains on the wood or a glue spill). So for now, we are all enjoying Celine's little treasure.

***Celine's "new" sewing machine***
I'm sorry I have been away from the dailies for a while. There has been a lot going on with family and I stepped away from the dailies to focus on those things. One of the nice things that happened in that time is that Celine received this sewing machine that belonged to her great grandmother. It's a manual treadle Singer and is still functional. I am not sure what year it was made because although we have the manual, the pages are so fragile that we cannot turn them without risking disintegration. So I tried to portray a sense of age with the photo. Tomorrow, I'll post another picture showing more of the machine :)
