Constructive critiques welcome here :)
Please feel free to tell me what you really think. I want to know:
1. What I should keep doing
2. What I should stop doing
3. Different perspectives on what I've done (for artistic ideas in the future)
Sometimes in this community, I feel like I'm in over my head among so many very talented artists.

...And then it began to rain.
The big family reunion was yesterday. Some of the kids took to the water... when the air was "dry". They returned to the dock in a rush.

[edit by david:] And Jacci reluctantly surrendered the camera when I went down to the dock with an umbrella (the rain kind) after hearing it start to come down to rescue her and the equipment...

Upstate New York doesn't look a thing like New York City. We had so many people request pictures of Central Park when we told them we were going to New York. I don't see a "Central Park" around here. But the lake is kind of pretty, and lots of fun, too.

The Great American Standoff

Imagine my delight when during our drive from East Tennessee to Upstate New York yesterday, I realized that we were only a few miles from one of my favorite places, Sharpsburg, Maryland. It is the site of one of the most historic places in the United States, Antietam Battlefield. This is where the "bloodiest day in American history" took place on September 17, 1862 (over 22,000 casualties). So it was an added treat that we got to swing by during the 150th anniversary year. We weren't there long, maybe 45 minutes, just long enough to pick a spot to pose the kids for a shot. We chose the location where the battle ended, Burside's Bridge. Actually, this is probably one of the most significant spots of the entire Cilvil War. From this bridge, General Lee and his Confederate troops retreated. McClellan failed to give the order to chace, thus failing to end the Civil War there and then.
When I started the day, I had no idea we were going to go anywhere near this historic place that I love so much. So, my day went well. How was your Friday the 13th?

Aren't you glad you aren't superstitious?
All my people shots are still on my camera. So I'm sharing another moment in the life of Bubby. He sure knows how to work those eyes, doesn't he?
We are back oack on the road again today, heading for NY. I thank George and Cathy for their hospitality. It was awesome getting to spend the day with them yesterday. They are such wonderful and warm people. I hope we get the opportunity to have them visit us down in Texas sometime soon :)

Thursday morning at the Fillmore residence. This is the first time we've had the chance to visit with another Smugger. Hopefully, later today, we'll get George out there to shoot the beautiful Tennessee landscape. Meanwhile, Celine woke up this morning, wandered out into the living room and snuggled with George's dog, Bubby. Have a happy Thursday, everybody :)

This was a test shot. I'm not sure if I care for the hair being in soft focus or if I'd rather take the aperture up to 4.0 and get a sharper focus on the hair. I'm reasonably certain she won't let me cut her hair though. So I'm going to have to make up my mind on how to photograph it :)

[edit by david]: This portrait was a loose take on a portrait from Sal Cincotta that was on the wall at Creative Live this past weekend. tt's also the thumbnail of the preview vid at their web page, but the light is in slightly different position:

The extremely good presentation has prompted us to kick things up a notch or two...

I though Andrew looked a little angry in this shot. So after the normal processing steps (like color adjustment and blemish removal) I gave him a liquid attitude adjustment. Then I flipped the image for fun. I think he looks a little less angry, don't you?
(BTW: He wasn't really angry, just hot. It was about 110 degrees.)

We found another one of Tiny's fears. She seems to feel a little intimidated by a big stuffed flower that was made to hang on a child's bedroom wall. I've never met anybody who was afraid of a wallflower before. Have you?

Thank you to everybody who had such kind words for me about my asthma. I am feeling a lot better. The wheezing isn't gone, but certainly managed now :)

Empty Garden

With the sunset reflecting off the house and the branches of the shrub, I ended up with ghostly branches, some of them contained entirely within the bokeh. It wasn't really what I was expecting with this shot. But it's fitting for a garden I've neglected for years, abandoned and lonely. Maybe I should tend the north side of the house.

I missed Sunday :( It was a rough weekend for me with my asthma. I finally ended up in urgent care for a breathing treatment and steroids. I've had mild asthma for years. But actually having attacks is a new thing for me. I don't care much for it.
