SundaysChildSnapShots > Meet Tiny the Terror...er I mean Terrier. Her name is short for Valentine because she was born on Valentines' Day 3 years ago and she has a heart shaped spot on her back. But no rodent or bird in town thinks she is much of a sweet heart. See how she peers out from behind her prison bars (our porch railing)? There's a mockingbird in our yard and she wants him. I am but a moment's distraction from her focus on that bird. Photo taken by Jacci
(I hope you all don't mind that I posted a 2nd photo today. I'm stuck at home and can't do much. So my handy dandy camera is my constant companion.)
SundaysChildSnapShots > Thank you for all of the kind words left on David's photo from the emergency room. The pain in my arm is being managed by medication until next week when I see a neurosurgeon. Meanwhile, I can't move my head very much and am limited in what I can do. So yesterday, I sat at the side of the pool and watched the kids play. This is our 13 year old son, Andrew. He is laying in the kiddie end of the pool in about 12 inches of water. I took this shot just as his little sister splashed him. This is the moment just before his retaliatory reaction. SundaysChildSnapShots > A Tender Moment With the Holy Family: This shot resulted from my search around the house for pictures I could shoot without having to lift anything or bend my neck. I'll be doing this for a little while since I have a pinched nerve in my neck. This statue is only about 8 inches tall. But the black cloth behind it and the close proximity of the camera still emphasize the tenderness of the moment. Photo taken by Jacci.

SundaysChildSnapShots > This time of year, mostly what is left of the wildflowers in Texas is sunflowers. This shot was taken in the early evening. The backlight from the sun made the photo come out darker than it really was. The final effect was achieved by saturating the colors. Photo taken by Jacci.
SundaysChildSnapShots > Self portrait while waiting in the emergency room last night... my wife, the patient with a relatively unusable arm at the moment, was pushing me to take a picture for the daily photo. She found the round mirror on the ceiling outside the room she was in interesting, so that's what I used. Photo taken by David.
SundaysChildSnapShots > This moment occurred at the Ordination of five Priests in Austin, Texas. During the Ordination Mass, all of the Priests present lay hands on the men who are being ordained. It is one of the most reverent moments in Catholic worship. So a flash is out of the question. Photographers must work with existing light. In this particular church, there is a sky light that poses a problem with existing light. The sun sines down directly on various hot spots at unpredictable moments. This shot was taken just as the sun shined on the subjects. It is a perfect moment when the Light of Christ seems to shine on these two holy men of God. Although it is day time and very light in the church, it appears to be dark. The sensor in the camera has made an adjustment to the bright light on the subject making everything else appear dark. The Priest who is giving the blessing makes this shot especially precious to us. He is the Priest who married us. Photo taken by David.
[Additional comment by david: I was actively trying to avoid this from happening and did not notice until afterwards that several shots came out like this. I don't know that I could duplicate these if I tried - the sun and subjects were in the right spot at the right time.]

SundaysChildSnapShots > This is not a miracle photo. Nor is it a double exposure. The picture came out exactly as it appeared in the viewfinder. I was trying to take a picture of an encased statue. But the reflection from the trees was so crystal clear in the glass that it was impossible to get a clear shot of the statue. So I focused on the reflection of the trees. Because of the distance of the trees from the glass, the f/5.0 aperture makes the statue appear somewhat mystical. Photo taken by Jacci.
