07-01-2009 Stampede Sometimes I forget how blessed I am to live in this rugged state of Texas. But then I get in my car and drive a mile and a half down the street and run into a scene like this. There were eight of these mighty creatures gathered in the corner of the field. So I parked on the road side and got out of the car with my handy dandy camera. (This is when the stampede started.) All eight of them moseyed on over to the plastic fence that imprisoned them...and they stood there while I took their pictures. Scary, huh? Yes, I know...I shouldn't take such risks. I'm so thankful for that fence. (Photo taken by Jacci.) Historical tid-bit: Did you know that the cattle industry is how Texas recovered so quickly from the economic consequences of the Civil War?
07-30-2009 Krispy Kreme for everybody! Breakfast is on me. :D Just promise me you'll eat something healthy when you are done with your photo. (Photo taken by Jacci.)
07-29-2009 (evening) Does anybody know what this beautiful new friend of mine is? I think he may be a Tawney Emperor. But I'm not sure. The shape of his wings isn't quite right for that species. He struck a pose for me on this railing and I just couldn't resist him. (Photo taken by Jacci.) Mystery solved....It's a Question Mark Butterfly. See the white marking toward the bottom of the wing? That's the identifying mark.
