10-19-2009 The butterfly mystery has been solved. They are "Snout Butterflies". I see them every fall but never felt the need to know what they were until they decided to camp out in my oak tree. It's unusual to find them in an oak tree since their main food source is hackberry. Notice the gray underside of their wings? That's how they camouflage themselves. They rest with their wings up which makes them look like dead leaves.
10-18-2009 Last night, Sister Emmanuel of Medjugorje visited our parish. You might not think that an elderly woman with a thick accent and a habit would be able to connect with a bunch of American kids. But she engaged with them amazingly well. Near the end of the evening, she posed for a picture with Dominic, Andrew and Celine and their friends Michael, John, Mara and Sarah. She invited them to a youth night she is holding at another parish this evening. I'm not sure when she is scheduled to return to Medjugorje. But when she goes, our hearts will be with her. She has been a beautiful blessing for us. I hope that we have been a blessing for her too.
